The Royal

A traditional village pub directly opposite St Martin's parish church, with a cosy bar full of low beams and local memorabilia leading through to a separate restaurant that punches well above typical pub-grub weight. The kitchen leans heavily on Jersey seafood - scallops, bass and crab feature alongside steaks, burgers and a well-regarded Sunday roast. In summer the garden and front terrace fill quickly with walkers off the north-east coast paths and day-trippers from Mont Orgueil, while in winter the bar settles into a quieter, more local rhythm with a fire going and regulars at the bar. It works equally well for a quick pint and bag of crisps or a proper sit-down meal, making it a useful all-rounder for couples and small groups touring this corner of the island.

The restaurant section books up fast, especially at weekends and in summer, so reserve ahead if you want a table rather than bar service.
