The Old Portelet Inn

A beautifully converted 17th-century granite farmhouse set back from the cliffs above Portelet, with low oak beams, thick stone walls and a warren of cosy bars that still feel like the working farm it once was. The menu covers all the pub favourites - burgers, fish and chips, pizzas and a popular Sunday carvery - served in generous portions that suit families and groups after a beach day. A dedicated family room with games keeps younger children happy, while the real highlight is the clifftop terrace, which looks straight down over Portelet Bay and its tiny tidal island, Ile au Guerdain. On a sunny afternoon the terrace fills quickly with people nursing a pint and watching paddleboarders below, and in winter the open fires inside make it just as appealing. With its sprawling layout and large car park, it's an easy, relaxed stop whatever the weather.

Family-friendly until early evening, when it can get livelier; lots of parking on site, and the terrace tables go quickly on sunny days.
