Portelet Bay

The story

Portelet Bay reveals itself as a picturesque south-facing cove, its character largely defined by the Île au Guerdain. This rocky outcrop, accessible at low tide, is crowned by a Martello-style tower. Locally known as Janvrin's Tomb, the tower adds a layer of historical intrigue to the scenic landscape. The bay's sheltered position, tucked between headlands, contributes to its reputation for calm, clear waters, making it particularly inviting for swimmers. The journey to the sands involves a descent of approximately 200 steps, a small effort rewarded by one of Jersey's most celebrated coastal vistas, especially as the day draws to a close.

Where you'll find it

Portelet Bay is situated in St Brelade, on Jersey's south coast, a short drive from St Brelade's Bay village. Access is via a path and a substantial flight of steps from the headland parking area. While somewhat secluded, its proximity to other popular southern beaches like Ouaisné and St Brelade's Bay means it can be combined with other coastal explorations.
