Best time to visit Jersey
Jersey works all year, but the island you get in May is not the island you get in August. Here is what each month actually feels like.
Short answer: May to September is the main season, with daytime highs around 18–22°C at its warmest. September is the sweet spot — the sea is still warm from summer, the crowds have gone home and prices drop. April and May are best for walking, when the cliff paths are covered in wildflowers. November to March is cheap, quiet and surprisingly good for storm watching, pubs and museums.
Jersey sits further south than anywhere in the UK mainland and records the most sunshine hours in the British Isles — but it is still an Atlantic island, so pack layers whatever the month says.
Jersey weather and crowds through the year
Typical daytime highs and how busy the island feels. Temperatures are averages — a still, sunny April day on the south coast can feel like summer.
| Month | Daytime high | Sea | Crowds | What it is good for |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| January | 6–9°C | Cold | Very quiet | Storm-watching on the west coast, cheapest hotel rates, some attractions closed. |
| February | 6–9°C | Cold | Very quiet | Bracing coast walks and empty beaches. Half-term brings a short family bump. |
| March | 8–11°C | Cold | Quiet | Daffodils along the lanes and the first Jersey Royals appearing. Days lengthen fast. |
| April | 10–13°C | Cool | Building | Wildflowers on the cliff paths and Jersey Royal season proper. One of the best walking months. |
| May | 13–16°C | Cool | Moderate | Liberation Day on 9 May, long light evenings, everything open but not yet full. |
| June | 15–19°C | Warming | Busy | Longest days of the year and reliable beach weather. Book accommodation ahead. |
| July | 17–21°C | Warm | Peak | Peak season: festivals, boat trips running daily, highest prices. |
| August | 18–22°C | Warmest | Peak | Warmest sea of the year and the Battle of Flowers. Beaches and car hire book out. |
| September | 16–20°C | Still warm | Easing | The locals' pick — warm sea, softer light, fewer people and lower rates. |
| October | 13–16°C | Cooling | Quiet | Excellent walking weather, autumn food events, big Atlantic swells for surfers. |
| November | 10–13°C | Cold | Very quiet | Low season prices. Good for museums, pubs with fires and empty cliff paths. |
| December | 7–10°C | Cold | Quiet, then festive | St Helier Christmas markets and lights; short days but a genuinely cosy island. |
The best month for your kind of trip

May to September, when the food festivals, markets and outdoor events cluster. Jersey Royals peak in spring.
Budget trip
November to March outside the Christmas weeks — the cheapest flights, ferries and hotel rates of the year.
Surfing
Autumn and winter bring the biggest Atlantic swells to St Ouen's Bay; summer is better for learning.
Rock-pooling and tidal walks
Any month with a big spring tide. Check the tide table rather than the calendar.
Plan around what is on
Liberation Day (9 May), the Battle of Flowers in August and the autumn food events are worth building a trip around — and worth booking early if you would rather avoid the crowds they bring.
