The story

Set just behind the dunes of St Ouen's Bay, La Mare au Seigneur is a reed-fringed freshwater pond managed by the National Trust for Jersey. Hides overlook the water and surrounding marshland — home to bitterns, marsh harriers, reed warblers and migratory waders.

What to expect

The island's best birdwatching, minutes from the surf beach.

Good to know

Two public hides. Quiet voices please. Best at dawn or dusk.
