Established in 1878, the Royal Jersey Golf Club offers a journey through golfing history on a windswept links course. With Mont Orgueil Castle presiding in the distance, this is where legendary six-time Open Champion Harry Vardon honed his skills, adding a profound sense of heritage to every round.
The Royal Jersey Golf Club, nestled along the Royal Bay of Grouville, holds a distinguished place in the annals of British golf. Founded in the late 19th century, it quickly became a significant golfing destination, famously shaping the early career of Harry Vardon, one of the game's true titans. The course itself, while not the longest on the island, presents a formidable challenge, particularly when the Channel breezes sweep in. Its design cleverly integrates the natural coastal landscape, demanding precision and strategic play. The blend of historic significance and natural beauty creates an experience that resonates deeply with golfers who appreciate the sport's roots. Tales of Vardon’s youth on these very fairways are still recounted, underscoring the club's enduring legacy.
Golfers can anticipate a challenging round on a meticulously maintained links course where the elements often play a significant role. The sea air and the backdrop of Mont Orgueil Castle create a memorable atmosphere. While shorter than some modern courses, the natural defences of the coastline ensure a thorough test of skill. Afterwards, the clubhouse provides a welcoming space to reflect on your game. Visitor times are typically available on most weekdays, offering a chance to walk in the footsteps of golfing legends.
The club is situated in Grouville, on Jersey's eastern coast, directly bordering the expansive Royal Bay. Its address is Le Chemin au Grèves, Jersey JE3 9BD. It's easily accessible by car, with ample parking. Mont Orgueil Castle, St. Catherine's Breakwater, and various coastal walks are all nearby, offering excellent options for non-golfers or post-round exploration.
Ensure you have your handicap certificate ready, as it is usually required for visitors to play. Smart attire is expected both on the course and within the clubhouse.
The course offers a distinct experience in all seasons, though a clear, breezy weekday morning will showcase it best.

This golf course is an absolute gem. Friendly people, reasonable rates, and the rental of outstanding equipment. Less than extortionate prices in the pro shop. Awesome first holes with a clever mix of sand bunkers and German WW2 bunkers. Great view of Napoleonic and Medieval castles. This place will stay with me forever.
Superb and challenging course in wonderful condition. Exceptionally welcoming staff and nice atmosphere with really good facilities. All in all an excellent day out on a course that when the wind blows will test you hugely. Spectacular views too. 5 star plus for me
Fabulous course and clubhouse, steeped in history. As a visiting fourball, we were made ti feel very welcome. The fish and chips for Lunch was excellent, too.
