Jersey Zoo
Conservation-led zoo founded by Gerald Durrell.
A guided walk two miles out across the seabed at low tide to a 18th-century fortification standing alone in the sea.
Twice a day the tide falls away from Jersey's south-east corner to reveal a vast, otherworldly seabed - and a route out to Seymour Tower, a square granite tower built in 1782 that stands a full two miles offshore. Local guides (Jersey Walk Adventures and others) lead small groups out across the sands and gullies at low water, pointing out the oyster beds, marine life and wartime history along the way. At high tide the tower is completely cut off - you can even stay overnight in it. It's one of the most extraordinary experiences anywhere in the Channel Islands.
Walk on the bottom of the sea to a castle in the middle of nowhere - pure Jersey magic.
Only possible at low tide and only with a guide - the tide returns fast. Wear wellies or old trainers. Book ahead in summer.
